Being a Christian is an amazing journey sometimes it’s fun, and sometimes it’s hard, but it’s never boring. There are seasons of blessing and relationship with the church, and your brothers and sisters in the church, and there are times when you feel alone. There are times in your relationship with God that are so incredible that it is hard to put into words. Those experiences cement a faith that no one can talk you out of, because you have experienced the power of God’s presence, and his magnificent love, which you just know you don’t deserve. And, there are times when you don’t feel God’s presence at all.
When you are a young Christian you depend on the good times to keep you in the faith, and when times aren’t so good, there is a temptation to give into the flesh for a good time. As you learn and grow, you discover that the pleasures of the flesh are no competition for the blessings of the Lord. You learn that feelings of isolation can be a result of sin. Remember Adam hid from God when he sinned.
And they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and the man and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden. 9 But the Lord God called to the man and said to him, “Where are you?” 10 And he said, “I heard the sound of you in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked, and I hid myself.” Genesis 3:8-10 ESVWhat happens when your experience becomes dry, and feeling empty for a prolonged period of time, and you are not living in sin? Yet there is nothing tangible for you to take hold of. All that you have is your faith, and you hold onto that faith with everything that you’ve got. It might not feel good, but your faith is growing. When you get through it, intact, and have not fallen, guess what, you have grown. You have experienced what the bible calls “going from glory to glory.”
But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as from the Lord, the Spirit. That Christian experience is never the same, as long as we grow through it, and pass to another glory, but we keep growing, and will continue to do so until Jesus comes back. Sometimes it is very difficult, but God never allows us to go through something that we can’t take. The Christian experience is full of mountains, and valleys.
